Expression
  • More sounds show up in babbles (b, d, h, m, n, n, w, j, p) and are used in different combinations with different vowel sounds
  • Babbles are more “sing-songy”
  • Repeated-syllable sounds appear (e.g., mamama, bababa, dadada)
  • Gestures when something familiar appears (e.g., parent or pet)
Understanding:
  • Understands gestures, such as head shakes or nods
  • Looks at common object, pictures of common objects, and people when labeled (the baby simply follows along, not necessarily responding to questions)
  • Looks for something that is partly hidden
  • Responds to “no” with a brief pause of movement
Social Interaction:
  • Starts a “conversation” by vocalizing to someone
  • Enjoys playing with people; smiles and giggles when others smile or laugh
